This year’s event was themed “Global Paper Trade, Gathering in Guangzhou,” and was co-organized by paper associations and academic societies from more than ten provinces and autonomous regions—including Guangdong, Jiangsu, Henan, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Guangxi, Fujian, Hubei, and Hunan—along with the Shandong Light Industry Machinery Association.

She emphasized that the industry must optimize its raw-material mix, bolster innovation, and leverage AI to address challenges such as constrained raw-material supplies and the impact of imported base paper.

In her presentation on “Sustainable Paper-Based Functional Materials,” Professor Wang Xiaohui of South China University of Technology stated, “The paper industry is currently the biomass sector with the greatest economies of scale, and pulp-and-paper materials, as quintessential bio-based materials, are irreplaceable.” She also noted that China’s paper industry continues to face the challenge of relying on imported high-end equipment and industrial software.

Guo Yihao, Senior Manager at COFCO Futures, analyzed the price dynamics of the pulp industry chain from a market perspective, offering valuable strategic insights to the participating companies.
